21 July 2002 Liän Ensemble in Concert
A dynamic collaboration of diverse musicians offers new works across cultural boundaries of
the Persia, America and the world. With the deep seated belief in creative world music
as a bridge to increased understanding amongst us as human beings, this concert celebrates
the mystic voice of love and longing for union with the divine through music.
Leading Persian musicians of the Liän Ensemble join forces with virtuoso performing artists
from Venezuela and the United States, highly trained in an array of musical traditions and
instruments from India, Eastern Europe, western classical, folk and jazz.
In a statement of unity among cultures, these artists pursue the belief that collaboration of
this kind is vital to the growth of music, the mutual enrichment of people of all backgrounds,
faiths and beliefs and is of great importance in today's political and social climate of the world.
This concert features the Liän Ensemble with Houman Pourmehdi ( Tonbak, Daf, Ney ), Siamak Shajarian
(Vocal), Mahshid Mirzadeh (Santur), Saeed Kamjoo (Kamancheh, Ghachak), Mehdi Mansouri (Daf, Dohol),
Pirayeh Pourafar (Tar, Robab), and special guest artists, David Johnson (Marimba), Pedro Eustache (Duduk,
Flute, Kaval, Bansuri), and Paul Livingstone (Classical & Fretless 9-string Guitars, Sitar).
